Children's Care

Storybooks paint a magnificent picture of the wonder of childhood. In real life, the beauty of childhood is often interrupted. It is heartbreaking and unfortunate.

Our Approach

We treat children ages 3-11 using Play Therapy (learn more).

Therapeutic play normally takes place in a safe, comfortable playroom, where very few rules or limits are imposed on the child, encouraging free expression and allowing the therapist to observe the child’s choices, decisions, and play style. The goal is to help children learn to express themselves in healthier ways, become more respectful and empathetic, and discover new and more positive ways to solve problems.

Why Therapy for Children?

Children are susceptible to the same emotional health issues and mood disorders that plague adults (learn more). As many as one in five children and adolescents may have an identifiable mental disorder that requires treatment. At least 1 in 10 has a serious emotional disturbance (Everyday Health, 2018).

Trauma impacts children even more than adults. Things that adults may not consider traumatic can be quite traumatizing for kids.

These are events that have an adverse impact on well-being. Think abuse, divorce, poverty, racism, bullying, and more. Learn more about ACE’s (Adverse Childhood Experiences).
